Not Dead Yet
Soccered might be able to stay alive, but the Soccered team needs some help. As always, Robert Marney has something to say:

"Soccered might be able to stay open, but we are asking somethings from the community:
1. Anyone that has downloaded entire leagues from the jerseyland, and who would be willing to e-mail the kits please contact soccered@soccered.com once we get all the kits we can relaunch the jerseyland.
2. If there are members of the community who are interested in helping the site there is a job info page at http://jobs.soccered.com where you can help to keep the site open.
Please with a bit of help we can keep the site going for the next year, we have so many plans to bring the fans a great edition of fifa."

And as always I'll say: If you can help, mail Robert.

Soccered Is Closing
Soccered has encountered some difficulties over the past few weeks, and now the Soccered team is considering to close down the site. Here's what Robert Marney (webmaster) has to say:

"I got home last night from two weeks in spain. I was devastated when I opened my e-mail client to see that I had over 200 e-mails. 115 of them were complaints and abuse, ranging from the lack of updates by me, and the download problem at the jerseyland.

I will not go into the minute details. I was in a remote part of spain, without my cell phone, without internet, and without a fixed line phone. I contacted england 3 times by pay-phone other than that I was alone. I got 28 e-mails complaining that I had not updated, the news, the reviews, the screenshots, the kits, and almost everything under the sun.

As for the jerseyland, the days before I left SG (our host) switched servers thus we had to move everything. When I left on my trip the download server was not yet operational, so we hosted the files on SGs alternate servers. I was told the files would not be removed, I found out that the server was taken down 3 days into my trip even thoug I was promised at least two weeks.

I can go into more details about who sent the e-mails who there is to blame, but I would like to say sorry to the fans. As of right now I am 90% sure soccered will not remian open.

I am looking to give the site to an abitious webmaster who can run it, I will assist from time to time, But I feel let down by you all. Over the last year I have given so much of my time to you all and I get thanked by this.

Those who e-mailed me you know who you are, thank your self for ending a site which gave something different to the community.

Anyone that is interested in helping to run the site please e-mail me at bobmarley@soccered.com . I am sorry."

So if you can help, be sure to mail Robert.

Football Week - Day 3
It's midweek, "halftime" of GameSpot UK's Football Week. Halftime usually provides entertainment, and for the curious FIFA fan, it does.

Today they have posted a new interview with FIFA producer Kerry Whalen. Plus new FIFA 2002 screenshots, adding on to their already huge FIFA 2002 photo gallery. Here is a small clip of the interview:

"GSUK: What does reinventing mean? Is it a case of new gameplay or improved
gameplay?

KW: Easy to pick up, challenging to master is the mantra we've been chanting. It's reinvented because it's been redesigned right down to the core gameplay mechanic. The result is a fun yet deeper gameplay experience.
"

If you are a true and loyal FIFA fan you can't miss this. Otherwise, this interview doesn't say much in regards to the game. I wasn't very impressed, as it seemed they were hiding all the true and hard facts. Even so, head over to GameSpot UK's Football Week: Day 3 and take a look.

News from the world down under.
The newest website for those "down-under", FIFAustralia, has sent us an update on their progress and latest news.

  • Help Wanted - As you know FIFAustralia (and Soccered) are releasing the NSL Season 2001-2002 Patch in the near future, however they are trying to time the release of this patch with the start of the season in a few weeks, and to do this they need some help making things and getting some information. This is what they need:

    • They need some stadiums done, 5 in total, or if you can do 1 it would be cool.
    • Team lists for the new season, if you know alot about a particular NSL club and know their squad for the upcoming season, send it in.
Full details of what is in the patch is available at the FIFAustralia section. If you need pictures for the stadiums simply e-mail the webmaster and he will send you the images needed. However, help of any kind is greatly appreciated.

  • New Competition - There will be a competition for all those budding graphic designers out there. What you must do is "design a new FIFAustralia header, and logo for the site", remember to include the site name, some player pics, in game pics (as in current header) and whatever you feel is neccessary, and it must have a transparent background (preferrable). For the logo, do whatever you like, but remember this site is Fifa 2001 and Fifa 2002 oreintated. So get designing and send it to gwyna@iprimus.com.au . The best design will be used for the site, and runners up will be announced on site, as well as the winner. Entries close 19th August 2001.

  • Brand New Section Opens - The new section has a chat room, quick quiz and a forum. You can access the new section of the site by visiting FIFAustralia.
You can check out and help out one of best site specificaly for Australia, New Zealand, and the rest of Oceania!

The "Dog Days" of Downloads
Yes, it is hot as an egg on a frying pan and the air is as moist as a swimming pool. Wiping the sweat off your brow walking down the street, as the electric wires buzz overhead.

Okay, so maybe your summers aren't like that. The point is, we are in the dead of summer, and we're feeling it a bit at the downloads, because today, we only have four downloads :
  • Brazil Home Kit
  • Scottish Roster & Schalke 04 Updates
  • Nike Training Kits (screenshot)
Of course never despair, there are sure to be more downloads on their way tomorrow. And if all else fails you can always check the wide selection of downloads already avaliable at our Downloads Centre.

Downloads are FUNdemental
Downloads increase your ability to, well, play FIFA 2001 longer. According to a recent survey conducted by Hoax University, 9 out of 10 people prefer downloads to uploads. Jakob Knudsen had only a few words to say, "I don't like the downloads". Well, well, what a predicament. Looks like the "Downloads Man" is the 1 out of 10. The truth is out - now it's time for your downloads from our Downloads Centre:
  • Bayern München Classical (see screenshot below) & Everton 01-02 Away Kit (screenshot)
  • Brazilian Faces Pack
  • Costa Rica Home & Away Kits (screenshot)
  • Nike 2GK Inverse Ball (screenshot)
  • Premiere Hex Nets 2 (screenshot)
Bayern Munich Classic Kit

Jakob may be expressing his negative feelings, but I would like to note that me and the downloads go way back. There would never be a problem between the downloads and I! So with that assurance, I will end today's downloads chapter. Hey, maybe someday I'll write a book with all the download updates ever posted!

You'd buy it, wouldn't you? Wouldn't YOU?

FIFA 2002 - As We Wait
Our own Joe Lemon has put together a very interesting and hard-hitting story on the FIFA series and how EA Sports are under pressure to really perform with FIFA 2002.

"Looking back and reading what people have said about the previous releases has made me wonder if this is just another one of those hyped-up games that is going to make me bored within a few weeks. With all my doubt, I’ve been told by my Soccer Gaming acquaintances that this game is definitely different."
Make sure you give "Preparing the Eulogy" a read as it the article also includes four new FIFA 2002 PS2 screenshots.

Remember these?
I wonder, when was the last time I informed you of a community update? A few months ago there was probably some line such as, "Check back next week for another great and amazing update!" Well, for those of you keeping track, I lied. Indeed, the updates are still great and amazing, but you probably noticed the absence of "Community Updates" in the past few months. Of course, I wouldn't just write about me being a liar and a loser without giving you a few websites to view. While you pound down that chicken sandwich (yes, chicken), here are a couple of websites to look at:
  • FIFA Oceania - FIFAustralia and Fifa Oceania have combined and move to Soccered and kept the name Fifa Oceania, so it incorporates the whole of Oceania rather than just Australia.

The new site will host both NSL downloads, and Oceania downloads in general. With news updated nearly twice a day. There is also an Australian news section and NZ/Oceania news section. Sam Jenkins (creator of OFC World Cup Qualifiers Patch) and G. Askham (creator of NSL Patches) are the Webmasters. However they are also looking for some more help with the site. Head to the site for more details.
  • FIFA 4 Winners- "Die erste Deutsch Fanpage zu FIFA 2002" (The first German Fanpage for FIFA 2002). Check this site out for news about the newest EA game, FIFA 2002. That is, if you speak German or have some basic knowledge of it.

New FIFA 2002 Questions for EA
We've just compiled a new set of FIFA 2002 questions from our FIFA 2002 Forum and sent them directly to EA Sports. Answers to these questions will be posted shortly on the Official FIFA 2002 website. Some of the questions asked include:
"(Approximately) How many stadiums will be in the game? As of now, which stadiums will be included in the game? (i.e. Will there be indoor?)"

"Will there be a limit as to how many teams/leagues we can add?"
You can read and comment on the full set of ten questions we compiled in this forum topic.

It is going to be a big football season here at Soccer Gaming. Not only will we be taking FIFA 2002 to a new level with our Downloads Centre and planned LAN tournament in London but we'll also be catering for ISS fans with the launch of our ISS Extreme website shortly.

Check out SoccergameZ
Over at the MRA site we are very proud to announce our latest partner agreement with the lads over at the excellent SoccerGameZ. SoccerGameZ is a Dutch news portal about SoccerGameZ and everything connected to them, news from magazines to websites.

Click here to visit the new home of Sweetpatch in DutchIt has great graphical and content quality and they have also started up a Dutch Sweetpatch MRA section specifically for posting all the latest patch news in Dutch.

SoccerGameZ has also launched their Download Switching Center (DSC). With this center they wish to be more interactive for the visitors as well as giving every download maker a good chance to publish their work. How does it work? EASY, you fill out a simple form, and your download is directly submitted to their database. One thing: people have to host their downloads themselves. At the add-form you simply fill in the url where the file is located. Take a look @ http://soccer.gamez.nl/download/ where you can find a Dutch and English version of the DSC.

They also recently launched a top 25. You probably have seen them before. The tables with hits in and out... They have set it up and in both Dutch and English versions. Check it out and see which sites are hot.

We are sure you will benefit in the future from this new partnership between the MRA site and SoccerGameZ. We are certainly very excited by it.

FIFAustralia
Gazza has informed us due to some difficulties and access problems, FIFAustralasia is no more after only a week in existence. However, a replacement site is now up and running, just for Australian gamers (well anyone really), FIFAustralia.

It is now officially open as before this site was on another server with the same name, then they changed servers and names, and now they are on the new server with the old name. Phew! Confusing stuff. But now they can cater to a select audience and give a better coverage.

To launch the site they are introducing the NSL Patch v3.0 which features:

  • updated kits
  • all 14 NSL teams in the one league
  • FEd 2001 compatibility
  • full rosters (last season)

There is also a new NSL patch coming out for season 2001/2002, and they are looking for some more 2GKits for the patch. If you are interested in helping head over to FIFAustralia. Also whilst you are there you can find their Australia vs New Zealand Oceania Qualifiers Patch.
