Posted by Matt ![]() As Rich just posted, this is the climax of the wait for FIFA 2001! If you have tried to go to the official EA Sports site listed below, you probably found it bogged down with people downloading it, and unable to download. We will continue checking for new servers. We could also use your help, if you just happened to stumble on a FIFA 2001 Demo file, send it to us (Along with the language of the site), and we will update this news post with the servers. Update: All the servers listed have been moved to our Demo Section. FIFA World has said that the matches that come with the game, depending on the language version, are: (German)Bayern Munich vs. Bayer Leverkusen, (English)Manchester U. vs Arsenal, (French)Marseille vs Paris SG, (Italian)Juventus vs. Lazio, and (Spanish) Barcelona vs. Real Madrid. Posted by Joe ![]() I have finally mangaged to upload a further 30 brand new, never before seen screen shots of FIFA 2001 onfield action. We have also updated our FAQ page with all the latest answers. Philippe will be checking out our FIFA 2001 Forum later today to find the next 10 questions we'll be sending into EA for a response. Because of the huge success of the FAQ pages, EA have added yet another new feature to their official site. They now want even more viewer contributions by introducing their new "Ask a question" and "It's your poll" section. These two new concepts allow you to send your FIFA 2001 questions direct to EA as well as give your opinion on what their next poll question will be. Visit the FIFA 2001 Official website for details on these new features and much more. Posted by Matt ![]() Only a few days remaining before FIFA 2001 is released. FIFA 2001 Online has quickly become the most successful website in the history of Soccer Gaming. Over the past week the website's viewer stats have increased three-fold and we predict even more visitors as FIFA 2001 is released and in conjunction with our soon to open Downloads Centre and FIFA 2001 Workshop, we release awesome patches and add-ons for the game. On behalf of all the staff here at Soccer Gaming I thank you for your support and we all look forward to providing you with the best FIFA 2001 news and downloads in the future. Due to the sites sky-rocketing popularity, I have been receiving literally 100's of emails per day. Over the next week I will be making my way through my emails and I will attempt to reply to as many as possible. I must also clarify with some of the people on my ICQ list who would have received very offensive and rude messages from me over the past 24 hours. Some deceptive person was able to hack into my ICQ account and took advantage of my ICQ account. I have made all efforts to make sure this does not happen again and apologise to anyone who was offended by messages that appeared to come from me. Posted by Matt ![]() ![]() I have just finished uploading a massive collection of 27 new Screen Shots. On this occasion, I decided to take a selection of shots from the Customise/Player Edit area from the FIFA 2001 Options menu. You can see a variety of different teams kits in close detail. Two can be seen below with the rest waiting for you in our Screen Shots section. ![]() ![]() Tomorrow we'll be uploading another massive collection of ingame screen shots involving a number of popular teams. They're all very interesting and action packed so make sure you drop by again tomorrow. Posted by Matt ![]() Unlike earlier reported, Windows 2000 users will be able to run FIFA 2001. Here is an extract from the readme.txt file in the FIFA 2001 BETA version. FIFA 2001 will run under Windows 2000 & Windows ME, although these operating systems are not officially supported. However, to install the game properly, you will need administrator access to your machine. Consult your Windows 2000 documentation for more information. This is great news for everyone who uses the new Microsoft operating systems. Posted by Matt ![]() It's that time of the week again, to report that EA has updated the Official FIFA 2001 Website. This week update includes Week No. 4 of Q&A that were hand picked out of our Forums. I will tell you now, some of you will not like what you see - Galatarasay being the only Rest of World team. EA also has some new features to the site, including a brand new motion-capture video of Paul Scholes strutting his soccer skills. Not to mention, the new tips and hints section, providing you with strategies and ways to get on top. Whether against the computer or on the internet. You can't miss these brand new updates! Just say "Take me Joe", and off you'll go! Posted by Joe ![]() Well as if getting Championship Manager 00/01 wasn't enough footballing joy for me today, I have come back from the shops to discover that Matt has made a load of screenshots, 13 to be precise (a bit unlucky Matt!), from the early version of FIFA 2001 he's received from EA Sports! Here are the first two for you to have a gob-droppingly long glare at.. ![]() ![]() The rest of the shots are on PC Screen Shots page 5. Matt says he'll be back with even more tommorow so stay tuned FIFA fans! Posted by Chris ![]() ![]() Since I announced yesterday that we had received a copy of the BETA version of FIFA 2001, I have been inundated with the question of, "How is FIFA 2001?". My reply has been short, honest and straight to the point, "Awesome!". I have put together a new article known as My FIFA 2001 Thoughts. I have spoken about my first reaction to FIFA 2001, inparticular concentrating on the new and simply superb, "Slower" game speed mode, the larger pitch, plus a couple of the other features which truely put a smile to my face. I strongly recommend you read the article as I depict my true thoughts and feelings of how I found my first FIFA 2001 experience to be. There are also a couple of new shots in the article. ![]() Speaking of screen shots, I was lucky enough to catch one of the funniest FIFA moments ever. After humilatingly scoring an own goal, to run salt into the wound, my player furiously kicked the ball away, smashing it into one of the posts and rebounding back into my player. What follows is abosolutely hillarious. Check out the shot above. Yes, it really did hit him there! Brings tears to your eyes doesn't it? Who ever was in charge of the player celebrations at EA deserves a pat on the back! Posted by Matt ![]() ![]() We here at Soccer Gaming are happy to announce that as of today, we'll have our own copy of the BETA version of FIFA 2001. What does this mean for you? Well more screen shots, more info, and the ability for us to answer your questions. Return to this site tomorrow for a huge collection of new screen shots from FIFA 2001. ![]() Also, thanks to Jack at EA Thailand, we're going to be receiving some awesome FIFA 2001 Keyrings (seen above) and mouse pads to give away. I will shortly post details on how you can get your hands on these very rare and collectable FIFA 2001 accessories. Stay tuned. Posted by Matt ![]() Yet another interesting FIFA 2001 preview was released today. CGO's FIFA 2001 Preview raises interesting points about the gameplay and AI and also displays an array on new screen shots. Two of the shots can be seen below.
Make sure you atleast check out the second one because you can see the linesman up close and personal. Posted by Matt ![]() The guys over at our Dutch website, FIFA Benelux, have posted a list of the 99 players that will be given the "Star Player" status in FIFA 2001. If you don't speak Dutch, they've also been nice enough to translate it into English right here. Posted by Matt ![]() ![]() IGNPC has made it's final say on FIFA 2001 game, as well as some new screenshots. In the review, as in many other reviews, they note a larger pitch: "The field is really noticeably bigger this time around which will allow for more thinking and more strategic decision-making. And for most soccer fans looking for a more realistic experience, that is a good thing." Posted by Matt ![]() One of my contacts from EA Sports has informed me that if all goes to plan, the FIFA 2001 demo will be released sometime next week. This is great news as for once people will be able to experience the game before it is officially released. We'll post more info on the demo and it's release date as it comes to hand. I've also been receiving many emails from visitors concerning the release dates of FIFA 2001 around the world. Release dates are varying from country to country. However, the game will be released for certain sometime between November 4th and November 11th no matter where you live. The best advice I can give you is to make a phone call to your local computer store where you will be purchasing FIFA 2001. Posted by Matt ![]() ![]() If this doesn't get you falling off your seats and onto your knees begging for a copy of FIFA 2001, I doubt anything ever will. SportPlanet's, Humberto "Salty" Dominguez, has pieced together a hands-on-preview of FIFA 2001 that I can honestly describe as the most promising and exciting FIFA preview I have ever read. Salty has been reviewing FIFA games since the beginning and is never afraid to insult the game he loves to play. So when I read this preview, I felt my body fill with enthrallment as passages like: "... by far the closest approximation of association football within the realm of electronic gaming" and "The playing field has, after so many prayers, finally been enlarged" filled my screen. SportPlanet's FIFA 2001 Preview is a must read and not recommended for those of you who are impatient and may end up taking workers hostage at your local EA headquarters in search for an early copy of FIFA 2001. ;-) Posted by Matt ![]() Good news! We've just got the new box shots for FIFA 2001. The International version has soccer star Paul Scholes, as the United States features the MLS All-Star Ben Olson. Posted by Matt ![]() Dan from GamePen has informed me of his FIFA 2001 Preview he has written for the PC version of the game. In part he says: The first thing I noticed were of course the graphics. Everything seems so smooth as opposed to last year's game, and last year's effort was very good graphically. This year, players look more human--they talk, their eyes blink, and they seem to have a bit more personality. And, I must point out after six @#!$@#$^$#^$ing years, there are finally linesmen in this game. Apparently they (EA Sports) have had enough of my complaining :) Cool! There really are linesmen! Check out this preview today as Dan raises some interesting points. There are also over 40 new screen shots Dan grabbed for you to drawl over. Posted by Matt ![]() The guys over at the Sports Gaming Network, who have already got their hands on FIFA 2001(PSX), just posted their review of FIFA 2001 for PSX. As EA release more and more atractive movies and screen shots from FIFA 2001 all we can do is wait. No one has been able to even get close to playing the game and the waiting game is killing us all! Our own Joe Lemon has put together a great article entitled, As We Wait.... He talks about the new features of FIFA 2001 that he, and many people, are very exited about. Give it a read. It may just make those final few weeks go a little bit quicker ;-) Posted by Matt ![]() ![]() Just a quickie - Those new PS2 screen shots I mentioned yesterday can now be found here on our own site, for your convenience.
Also, I've just found out that there are some absolutely fantastic FIFA 2001 (US) movies taken from the PS2, thanks to IGN.COM's PS2 FIFA 2001 preview. You can get tons of movies if you go here (the "Current Media" ones being the ones I'm talking about), and the FMV Intro you can get here... Well, you get to hear the OOPS system in action (arguing players, celebrating players, etc.), and see some great stuff. All I can say is WOW! I had to download a further 6mb from Quicktime to get it to work and was up until 1am, but boy was it worth it. Wow. Wow. Wow.. Posted by Chris ![]() Mohamed Talat has informed us that he has finally created his Sports & FIFA site, which can be found by clicking the following link - http://pages.about.com/moh81/index.html. Posted by Nick ![]() Here's that surprise I promised! Some new screenshots of menu screens (and more) on and off the pitch, FROM THE PLAYSTATION2 (proving that, as I said in my last post, the menu screen shots from Jack of EA Thailand are actually PC screen shots), have arrived here. Posted by Chris ![]() Well, it's not BIG news, but it's news all the same... I've just discovered that the menu screen shots kindly given to us by Jack of EA Thailand (see news below) are 99.9% certainly (I won't say definitely because then something will roll along from somewhere and prove me wrong - C'est la vie..) PC screen shots - This is because... Well, I won't ruin the surprise, I'll make a news post a few minutes after this one with some evidence - FIFA 2001 fans, it's worth the wait! Posted by Matt ![]() ![]() We have just changed our Poll question. This time around we are asking "Is your National League in FIFA 2001?". With the National League list released by EA earlier this week being the most talked about and controversial part of FIFA 2001 yet, we want to know exactly howmany of our visitors will be able to enjoy their National League in FIFA 2001. This new Poll will be a good indication for EA to see how they can improve the Leagues list next year. Our last Poll question was a huge success and showed us that a large majority of our visitors strongly appoved of the design of this website. Thanks to everyone who voted. Posted by Dave ![]() With help from my mate Philippe, we have just finished selecting the next 10 of your questions to send into EA from our FIFA 2001 Forum. You can view all of the questions we chose this week by visiting the FAQ Week 3 section. We hope to receive a reply shortly with all answers being displayed in our FAQ section and on the Official EA FIFA 2001 Website. Posted by Matt ![]() Special thanks to my buddy Jack from EA Thailand for sending me four never before seen screen shots of the menus in FIFA 2001. We weren't entirely sure if these were PC or PS2 menu shots, but it has now been proven by Chris (see Sunday's last news post) that they are PC. Because of this, we now have all four of them on display in our PC Screen Shots section (page 4). You can check out two of them below.
Enjoy these shots and stayed tuned as we'll soon have the new 10 questions from our FIFA 2001 Forum that we'll be sending into EA. Posted by Matt ![]() ![]() One of the most exciting areas on the FIFA scene at the moment is the Frenquently Asked Questions that EA Sports are answering for us. As you may already know, all of the questions that EA answer come straight from our FIFA 2001 Forum. Today I have put together a new part of our Information section, called (surprise, surprise) FAQ. There you will find all of the questions EA have answered plus soon a list of the next 10 questions that have been selected from our Forums and sent into EA. Personally, I found this weeks answers from EA to be the most promising yet. We now know that FIFA 2001 will have a shot bar, a number of realistic licensed stadiums to choose from, awesome realistic crowd chants plus much much more. Be sure to check out our FAQ section today. I will be back in a few hours with 4 never before seen screen shots of the menu's in the PS2 version of FIFA 2001. Posted by Matt ![]() ![]() Since I made my last post, answers to all TEN questions sent to EA SPORTS by Matt have been posted at the official EA SPORTS FIFA 2001 website in the FAQ section. Once again some questions I have been asked a LOT are answered there, this time including "can we choose the stadium to play in (like in previous FIFA games)?" and "will there be linesmen?", plus some other very intresting stuff (like the sfx option "on the pitch" mix) - Check it out now FIFA fans! News from Matt is that we'll infact be opening our own FAQ section very shortly to not only display the questions EA have already answered us, but future questions that have already been sent out to EA and are awaiting reply. Posted by Chris ![]() Well it seems like only a few days ago when Matt sent out 10 new questions to EA SPORTS to answer about FIFA 2001... Hey, wait a minute, it was only a few days ago! Well, answers to 5 out of 10 of the questions (see Matt's earlier post, now in the News Archive) have now been answered and those very answers are on the official EA SPORTS FIFA 2001 website. Answers this time around are from questions including one I have not stopped being asked since I became an employee here - "why is my favourite league not included?", and a few more which you need to see now if you want some brand new information about FIFA 2001. Enjoy! Posted by Chris ![]() ![]() Our newest network site over at Soccer Gaming, FIFA Clubs, has announced some great news concerning the Internet Support feature in FIFA 2001. Already FIFA Clubs has many tournaments all over the world taking place for FIFA 2000 players. However, they have plans to begin an awesome world-wide tournament featuring FIFA 2001 and Internet Support. Here is what one of the organisers of FIFA Clubs, Claudio Mariano, has to say about his website: "Fifaclubs specialises in the organization of Fifa tournaments. We are a site where you can play the game with people from your own country and soon all over the world! We keep on changing the rules of our tournaments so that we keep the interest of the game alive. Our latest point systems tend to reward not only the best players (that win every game) but also those players that play constantly and try to become one of the top players. Our lastest tournament, which is set to start as soon as Fifa 2001 comes out, is the World League. This tournament shall follow the same structure as the Fifa World Cup. For each country we shall set up a national championship that, at the end of the season (probably late April 2001), will produce the best ten players for each country. At the end of the national championships, the final phase of World Championship shall commence. And this is where the new main feature of Fifa 2001- the possibility to play over the Internet - will be essential. In the Final Phase we will have these top players of each country play against each other. The object of this tournament is not to find out who is the best player on the planet , but its primary goal is to find out which is the best country overall. For example, in a hypothetical semi-final, the n°1 Argentinian player shall meet the n° 1 Italian player, the n° 2 from Argentina shall meet the n° 2 from Italy and so on. At the end of these ten matches (for "match" I consider at least two games: each player will be host at least once) we will probably have a score of 7 to 3, 6 to 4, or maybe even 5 to 5, in which case more matches will follow. The country whose players win most matches goes on to the next phase and eventually wins the World League. The precise rules for the Final Phase and its structure shall be released some time before the end of the national championships. The second, and also very important, part of Fifaclubs is the forums section. This is where the players get a chance to meet and exchange their ideas with the other Fifaclub players. Sometimes, mostly when we get close to the end of our tournaments, the "exchange of opinions" gets a little bit too hot, but always with great respect for the other players." Stay tuned to this site and FIFA Clubs for further news on this exciting new tournament. Posted by Matt ![]() Over the past few weeks we have had a great response to our foreign website promotion and we're happy to announce that up to 23 foreign FIFA 2001 websites will be opening within the next couple of weeks. Just take a look at the size of the list in the right menu! Today sees the official launching of our Thai mirror site at http://thai.fifa2001.com. Posted by Dave ![]() ![]() Well really the news partly released by Dave (see the news item below) is both FIFA 2000 and FIFA 2001 news, and this is a FIFA 2001 website, so I wasn't sure whether to post the news here or not, but since Dave's let the cat out of the bag I might as well finish the whole story.. No offence Dave! PotD2 for FIFA 2000 was due to be released about now, but due to me starting college and getting this job here at FIFA 2001 Online, I just couldn't find the time to finish it (and the same goes for Andrew "Drinky" Drinkwater, the other creator of the PotDs for FIFA 2000). So any further English footie patches from me are cancelled... But only until FIFA 2001! By the time FIFA 2001 is released, my work schedule will be cut down a bit and I will definitely have enough time to make a Patch of the Day for it! Of course this all depends on whether FIFA 2001 will need one, and from what I've seen so far it's questionable indeed! But we shall see.. Posted by Chris ![]() Chris Davies who has developed the excellent Patch of the Day series (PotD) has informed us that the next version of PotD: "WILL be released for FIFA 2001 soon after it's release on the PC". I know you will all be very excited of the prospect of PotD for Fifa 2001. We will keep you fully informed of progress with the development of this patch when it commences. Posted by Dave ![]() ![]() Today over at the MRA site they the 5th in the series of Fifa 2001 Skins for your MRA and it is the veteran German star who has won everything there is going in modern football and is now plying his trade in the MLS - Lothar Mattheaus.Check out the screen shot above and th |
