Week One Questions 1. Will the fields be bigger and more realistic in FIFA 2001?
One of our goals this year was to improve the tactical flow of gameplay on the field and a key factor in achieving that was creating space on the field. We modified the size of the pitch and the result has been what we feel is a much more realistic (and fun!) spacing of players on the field.
2. What has been done to improve game-play in FIFA 2001? Many people feel previous FIFA versions, inparticular FIFA 2000, had overly fast game-speed. Has the game speed been slown down in FIFA 2001?
We addressed the speed concern in a variety of ways but some of the key things we did included the re-sizing of the pitch (to create more space and, as a result, time for tactical thought) and creating a new sprint model for the players. We have also re-vamped how the players support the ball carrier and the general intensity of their play. As in previous versions of FIFA, we have included the Gamespeed option which will allow gamers to set the speed to what they prefer.
3. What are the 17 leagues that will feature in the FIFA 2001?
4. When will the Fifa 2001 demo will be able to download?
We do not have a date yet. If you register we will let you know by email as soon as the demo is available for download.
5. I would like to ask if you have made the new FIFA more believable, more football like, more of a footie simulator. What I mean with that is if you have increased the size of the pitch, made the opponents more intellegent (i.e not everyone rushing after the ball) or if you can control the player when the ball's in the air. Also, have you made it so you can execute a long pass in the air with any chance of success, meaning that in earlier FIFA's the opponent always snatches the ball in mid-air. A thing that might be causing this, is the small size of the pitch...
Will we get a more realistic game??
At the start of the project, we focused on consumer feedback, trying to improve on those areas that consumers felt needed the most improvement. To this end, we re-examined some of the building blocks of FIFA gameplay – we concentrated on opening the field up and slowing the gameplay down for a more strategic game. Re-sizing the pitch, changing the way teammates support the ball carrier and a new sprint model for the players were some of the things we tackled. We also added a large number of new animations to our core gameplay areas, creating a whole new level of realism in our game.
6. Will we see the stadium select return in FIFA 2001? And howmany stadiums will there be?
9. How about adding a stadium builder like in FA Premier League Manager 2000-2001. Also how about adding a create player option?
I think it's safe to assume that we'll begin to see more user-friendly custom options moving forward. Player creation would be a logical step in that direction. Regarding stadiums, we currently are looking to include quality over quantity. We might be able to consider a stadium editor one day, as soon as we can figure out how to provide that feature without sacrificing any of our realism and detail.
10. Will the club competetions be more realistic? Concerning the names of the cups, will they be as real as the original ones, or will we be stuck with such names as EFA TROPHY and ECC? Will there only be 32 clubs available for the UEFA CUP(EFA TROPHY), or will it be based on the new format? It would be interesting to see the clubs that have finished 3rd in the 1st group phase of the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE(ECC) thrown to the UEFA CUP's 3rd round. Will it also include the INTERTOTO CUP? How about the SUPERCUP? It can be both domestically and continentally.
Right now, European Cups are a cool part of FIFA but are not necessarily it's main focus. So we support them pretty well in the later rounds but not necessarily to the letter (as you indicate by the cup names). Will they be fully supported in the future and will more cups be added? Anything is possible--if we get enough feedback from folks who feel that the cups are the vital part of the FIFA series, that would certainly be a hint...
