8bit Kits
Palette Mini Guide
Applying Same Palette to More than
One Images The main problem with 256 colors kits is
that more than one images/objects inside your fsh-file (jxXXXXX.fsh)
should share the same palette. Specifically, there are three groups of
objects that should have their own palette:
front of jersey
(hjfr, mjfr, ljfr), back of jersey (hjbx, mjbx, ljbx), short
sleeves (hslv, mslv, lslv) and long sleeves (hlsv,
mlsv, llsv) should all share one palette.
shorts
(hsht, msht, lsht) should share another palette
socks
(hsck, msck, lsck) should share yet another palette.
If all the above images (regardless of the
group they belong to) use more or less the same colors on them, then it's
safe to have them all sharing just one palette. That's what I will explain
in details in the section that follows. Once you read it you should be able to
combine it with the info presented above and adjust it accordingly to cases
requiring you to use 3 different palettes for each different group
(see previous paragraph).
So, run EA Graph and do the
following:
open the front jersey image (hjfr).
open the Tools->Palette
Workbench window... in there you'll see a color palette along with
a row of small icons at the bottom of the window ( )
save the jersey's palette using, the Save
to File icon ( )
close the Palette Workbench window
open the back jersey image (hjbx)
open again the Palette
Workbenchwindow and do the following:
import your saved palette into
the window's color palette, using the Importicon
(
)... a small preview window will pop up so you can see how your image
will show (it looks crap, until you make the steps that follow).
update the image with the new
palette, using the Updateicon (
)... the small preview window will show your updated image (it will
look fine now ;-)
finally, save your new updated
palette (actually you save your updated image into the fsh-file),
using the Save Paletteicon (
)... don't worry, contrary to the disk icon picture I used in the
parentheses, in your case the disk-icon will be enabled.
close the Palette Workbench window and repeat
the previous step for ALL the images present in your fsh-file
(hjfr, hjbx, ..., mjfr, mjbx, ..., ljfr, ljbx, ...)
you are all set now... what's left is
to import your fsh-file into kits.big (or just copy it in the main folder of
the game).
