Transparent Crests

Making Transparent a totally Blank Crest Object
Many times kit makers do not want to use the crst-object (found inside all jxXXXXX.fsh files) because they don't like its automatic positioning at the various places on the kit (shirt, shorts and socks). If that's the case you need to create an empty crst-object and then make it totally transparent, so it doesn't show at all on your kit.

To make this happen, you use EA Graph and you do the following:

  • use a painting program (like Paint Shop Pro or Photo Shop) to create a 32x32 pixels bmp-picture, filled with any opaque color.

  • run EA-Graph and open the image object crst, from the tree shown on your left.

  • use the command Tools->Import Wizard to import the bmp-picture into the image object crst (once the wizard opens, select the very first option and then follow the remaining steps by selecting Next).

  • open the Tools->Palette Workbench window... in there you'll see a color palette along with four sliders (red, green, blue, opacity), a color preview area and a row of small icons at the bottom of the window (see picture above).

  • use the Preview icon ) to see how your crst image object looks like (in the small preview window that pops up on the top left side)... notice that the crest's color looks totally opaque.

  • now, head your mouse pointer over that small preview window and left click its button... notice that the crest's color will show up in the color preview area, inside the Palette Workbench window (the area that is shown black, with a 0 on its center, in our sample picture on the right)... the number inside that area denotes the color's index number.

  • now move the opacity slider all the way to the left, until it becomes zero... this means that the color shown in the color-preview area is set to be totally transparent.

  • update your crst image object, using the Update icon )... you'll notice that now the small preview-window (on the top left) does not show an opaque color in it, but adjacent gray and white boxes instead. This means that the crest is totally transparent.

  • finally, save your new updated palette (actually you save your updated crst image object into the fsh-file), using the Save Palette icon )... don't worry, contrary to the disk icon picture I used in the parentheses, in your case the disk-icon will be enabled.

  • close the Palette Workbench window and you are all set.

What's left is to just copy your fsh-file in the main folder of the game (typically C:\Program Files\EA Sports\Fifa 2001)... or import it into the file Fifa 2001\data\player\kits.big with EA-Graph.

(!) NOTE: With minor adjustments, the method described above can also be used for setting the transparency of a NON blank crest. While inside the preview window (that is, before moving the opacity slider to 0) click on the background color of your crest.
